Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What does membership cost and how do I join or renew membership?
Annual dues are $90 on a calendar basis (January through December). Dues are paid twice a year with $45 due in January and $45 due in July. The month you join CMD determines the prorated amount due for the remainder of the year. To join or renew, you may download the membership application here. The completed application along with your memebership dues payment can be mailed to the address on the application or brought with you to the next CMD event.
Q: What type of activities do you sponsor?
Our members are the ones who come up with the ideas for our activities. You can simply suggest an activity, or you can be a Host Couple for an activity. Here is a partial list of Couples Metro Dallas events:
Montly Anniversary events:
- Potluck – Every potluck is different, but every one is wonderful. Each potluck this year have been a lot of fun and very well attended. The food is always excellent and the company as well. Attendance ranges between 25 and 50 couples. The Host couple is responsible for plates, flatware, napkins and beverages. The Club reimburses up to $150 with receipts.
- Appetizer – Every Appetizer event is also different. The Host couple provides a variety of appetizers, both hot and cold, along with beverages. The variety of appetizers is great. The Club reimburses the host couple up to $250 with receipts. After the event, many couples get together and go out for dinner.
- Dessert – This is very unique, and every one is wonderful. Similar to the Appetizer event, the Host couple provides a variety of deserts along with beverages. The Club reimburses the Host couple up to $250 with receipts. Many couples go to dinner together and then proceed to the event.
Extra Events:
- Dinner Night Out – Most months we also have a Dinner Night Out, usually on the 4th Friday night of the month at a favorite area restaurant. Some of the restaurants this year included Celebration, Gloria's, and several others. Attendance ranges between 3 and 12 couples.
- Ladies' Night Out – New in 2002, several female couples of CMD are supplementing the monthly CMD potluck with a Ladies' Night Out, which is usually on the 3rd Friday of the month. Events so far include a movie night, going out to a restaurant for dinner together, and just spending a quiet evening at a member couples' home.
- Spring Picnic – For the past few years, CMD has sponsored at least one Spring picnic. Each of these potluck picnics was hosted by a member couple at a nice park and included lots of opportunities to play games, visit with other couples, eat lots of good food, and enjoy great weather.
-
Dallas Arboretum Visit – During the annual Dallas Blooms festival last spring, several CMD couples spent a Saturday morning touring the gardens of the Arboretum followed by brunch at the Dixie House. We had a great time, and plan to make this an annual event.
- Other Events include – Movie Nights in members' homes, Movie Nights in local theatres, Game Nights in members' homes, Day trip to Canton First Monday Trade Day, Sunday Brunches, and Swim Parties
Q: What is a Host Couple?
A Host Couple is a member couple who decide to host an event, be it in their home or in a public location. Their responsibilities are few, and the rewards are great. They simply set up the event, inform the Hospitality Couple of the schedule and greet people as they arrive. (Of course, hosting a monthly event involves a bit more.) Any member couple can host any type of event.
Q. How do I host a CMD event?
Hosting an event is easy. First you will need to call, email, or talk to the Events Couple see if the date you have in mind is open. The calendar is published in the monthly newsletter as well as here on the website, but it is always a good idea to check with the Events Couple to be sure the date is still available. The Events Couple can also help you with ideas on event planning.
If the date is open, the Events Couple will add it to the calendar. You will then need to write a short article describing your event to be sent to the Media Couple and Web Services Couple. They will then announce the event in the upcoming newsletter and on the website. In order to make it into the newsletter, events should be planned no later than the 20th of the preceding month.
Q: How large of an event should I plan?
Smaller Events are important too! The large membership of Couples Metro Dallas makes it impossible for many members to host such a large group at their home. But there are still many opportunities throughout the year for hosting smaller events. There are open weekends every month when nothing is scheduled, and it is perfectly acceptable to plan an event and limit the attendance to a small number of people.
You might like to host a movie night, or game night, a theme dinner party, or have a pizza party where the couples order pizza after everyone has arrived. Or, you might organize a movie night at a local theatre, dinner out at a favorite restaurant, or a day trip to a theme park or area attraction. Hosting a smaller event is less work that a major one and is lots of fun for everyone. We hope you will give it a try. Just contact our Events Couple to get your event on the calendar.
Q: We may not have time to attend everything, or some functions just may not be to our liking. Is that OK?
No problem! You are under no obligation to attend any specific event or any certain number of events during the year. You choose the ones you want to attend, and at which you think would have the most fun. A calendar of events is published each month in the newsletter you receive as a member of Couples Metro Dallas, and can also be found on this website.
Q: I am still in the closet at work. I really can't afford to be identified in public.
You have NOTHING to worry about. Couples Metro Dallas respects the privacy of our members. The only people to have your full name and address are the Board of Directors, and then your information is only used for internal mailing purposes. Only first names are used in the newsletter, and your private information is never given out to anyone. Pictures may be used in the newsletter or on the website only with your express written permission. You are under no obligation to attend public events at which CMD might make an appearance.
